On a PLM implementation project in which I was managing the creation of custom PLM training, it was the company’s intention to save money by creating all the training for the implementation.
It became apparent that additional time and money could have been saved if the training for the Fundamentals of PLM was separated from the training for the company’s Unique Processes.
Fundamentals of PLM training might include:
- PLM Architecture – metadata, file structures, etc.
- Searching in the database
- Setting up user dashboards/interfaces
- Retrieving from and saving to the vault
The company had decided to create all the training “inhouse”, including both training for the fundamentals and the unique processes.
Money and time could have been saved if instead of creating training for the Fundamentals of PLM, preexisting training for PLM Fundamentals was used, effectively the “recreation of the wheel” could have been avoided.
Excellent PLM fundamental training can typically be provided by the vendor. And if the vendor doesn’t have the proper fundamental training, then there is typically a plethora fundamental PLM training videos on social media. No artificial intelligence was used in the creation of this post, only real intelligence learned at the school of hard knocks.
